The original PlayStation was a grey plastic rectangle that helped redraw the videogame industry. Thirty-plus years later, Sony and LEGO are selling the rectangle back to us — one brick at a time.
The officially licensed LEGO PlayStation contains 1,911 pieces and builds into a near-1:1-scale recreation measuring 26cm wide. It includes the original-style controller, functional Power and Open mechanisms and a cable that plugs the controller into the console.
The clever part is inside
Sony and LEGO hid references to Ape Escape and Gran Turismo inside the build. The Gran Turismo scene includes a miniature track and cars; the Ape Escape scene has a swappable red or blue light on the monkey’s helmet. Both dioramas can be removed and displayed separately.
This is collectible culture
At $179.99 / €159.99 / £139.99, this is plainly an adult collector object. Its value is recognition: the circular disc lid, memory-card slots and wired pad are shorthand for a specific era.
When can you get it?
PlayStation says the set launches through PlayStation Direct in selected countries on 1 October 2026. LEGO Insiders also get access October 1, with general LEGO.com and LEGO Store availability beginning October 4.
